YET ANOTHER Opulent fundraiser...

Photobucket

Let's face it..big camps, big sound, big names, big lights. It all takes big funding to be transported to, constructed at, and transported home from the playa. So let's show some fucking BIG support, yea?! Hosted by UV99 Laser Productions (responsible for the most epic lights in the desert besides Roswell) at the MontBleu Resort in South Lake Tahoe, from 9:00 pm - 5:00 am. The lineup isn't solid yet, but will be available on May 18th. Check The Wannablog for more updates!

Temple-ary dreaming..

YO! The new temple looks like it's gonna be a breath of fresh dust..I love these sketches. Of course they're just brainstormed up, probably not going to be exactly what it'll look like. But still a new vision and direction to one of my favorite playa places.

Opulent fundraiser..

Photobucket

The Biggest Little Opulent Party will be in Reno on April 17th. Jeff Taisch, Syd Gris, and more yet to be announced! According to their website, this will be the camps eighth year on the playa and they're going to be scaling things back during Metropolis..

"I (Syd) speak for myself when I share I'm quite disenfranchised with the way many segments of the BM org can barely tolerate us ('us', as in sound camps) let alone recognize our significant contribution to what makes BM awesome and drives ticket sales. Larry Harvey (by his own admission)has never even been to Opulent Temple and seen what magic happens, and still seems to have a major attitude towards 'the ravers'."

...OUCH! Well, shit..the least we can do is show some support and let em know how much we appreciate what they do and enjoy the service they provide. Ever since hearing my first drop at Opulent, nothing's tasted as sweet. Let's go Opulent 2010!

Ecstacy in San Francisco?!

Photobucket

Above is a photo of Dan Das Mann and Karen Cusolito's monumental sculpture, "Ecstacy". Some of you may recognize her figure, she was out on the playa in 2007 with seven similar pieces that encircled the 99 foot tall Oil Derrick which blew up on Saturday night. Each figure was in a praise of homage, representing different religions around the world, and each was directed towards the tower itself. What an unforgettable moment!

She'll be at Patricia's Green in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of SF until June, which is when I'm guessing she'll start her journey to the dust. A reception is being held on March 19th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Below is a link for more information.

Camp Wannaburn needs a new image..

Photobucket

Here's a recent suggestion for the new Camp Wannaburn image (by haakenson). I love the idea. We need a new icon, something that represents us as the communal collective we are. We could use it on gifts, the flag, and our new t-shirts! Keep your minds and eyes open for anything that would work. If you come up with an idea, leave a comment!

Reno or BUST!

Photobucket

Friday night's "Golden Ticket" event at the Reno Convention Center was, well for the lack of a better word, a complete BUST! With more security than attendees, even getting in the place felt like boarding an international flight. Hairless chested teens ran everywhere, chewing on everything from plastic beads to their own tongues. Scantily clad high school girls obviously felt completely uncomfortable and the hunched shoulders, wrapped arms look wasn't any better looking than the odds for a semi-decent drop in any of the "themed" rooms except the gabber/hardstyle one. Even someone's CDJ got stolen, a mixer got broken, and a bunch of lights were jacked. UGH! But Wannaburn made the best of it and the chance to visit one of our own out-of-state was more than enough to deem it an overall pretty fun trip!

Here are some reviews from Reno locals:

Warning, may cause impromptu flashbacks and spinal leakage..

Photobucket

BBC Radio 1 journalist Bobby Friction traveled from London to Black Rock City and, from what I can tell, had an awe inspiring, overwhelming, gargantuan of an experience (as any virgin should). Three videos chronicle his journey. It's a rare perspective on the festival, as being a video made by experienced professionals, and from the perspective of a newcomer, both by nation and the local BRC community. He mentions Glastonbury at one point, it's a massive music festival in England that over 150,000 people attend. What does that many people in a grassy field plus crummy weather equal?? One huge mud pit!

I've watched a ton of videos from and about the burn, and I think these three, concise examples, have done it perfectly!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00q4ynn

Scroll down on the new page to find the first video, it's his venture from the airport to the desert.

Of course, the third, "The festival at night" is my favorite! Opulent! Bass Camp! The Rubix! What he says when he's back in London about the experience he just braved is..well, a definite reminiscence.

Oooh, prettyyyyy..

Photobucket

Below there's a link to some beautiful photographs taken by Waldemar Horwatt of the burn last year. They strike a dusty chord within my psyche and subdue my home-sickness. Well, they may just be causing more home-sickness... I got the link from the most recent Jack Rabbit Speaks. Check 'em out!

Golden Ticket!

Photobucket

Over 9 hours?! Fully themed rooms! Holy gum drops, it's The Golden Ticket! Friday, March 12th at the Reno Convention center! A night of debauchery, chocolate, and sore legs. Santa Cruz locals Dub Pirates, Mad Zach & R2, and Humpfreeze will be playing, sure to be sickening. Wannaburn will be reppin'.

Did somebody say....HOOP OFF??

Some of you may have seen this already, but...I'm sure you'll want to see these super hot hoop moves once again! Can't wait to get myself hooping out there this year, let this inspire your inner hula. One idea was to possible hold a "Hoop Off!" one afternoon on the playa. All contestants start at the same time, last one hooping, walks away the champion! Sounds good to me, could be a good addition to the W/W/W. Hopefully someone on the home team could represent and take it all, and leave the rest coughing up piles of moist playa.

AHHH, Spring..sun, pollen, shorts, WORK.

Photobucket

Spring is just around the corner, jeez! The vernal equinox is March 20th, and more importantly the burnal equinox has ALREADY passed. That's right! We're already over half way through with the longgg wait that we wait every year. It kinda reminds me of standing in line at the port-o-johns while waiting for the man to raise those predestined arms of his and go up in a delusional, seemingly drug induced ball of flames. OH god, enough ranting..business.

Therefore! Since it's just really fucking difficult to get everyone involved together, sober, and in one place all at one time, I'm gonna step it up on the online aspect of things. That way we can have an open forum of sorts, everyone can say whatever needs to be conveyed and it'll be much harder to get off topic. The discussion board on Facebook can serve as a public discussion panel (go fig) pretty easily. This way it'll be way harder to complain about not being able to get together with everyone and talk burn. If you haven't posted a thing on FB, you haven't partaken :). Check the page once, twice a week and there will almost always be something new from now til the end of August, when we all check out, drop in, tune sideways, and bust a hasty move for Nevada.

So that brings me to this, the Wannablog! I'll post videos, links, pictures, all sorts of cool ish I run across on an almost daily basis that reminds me of the burn (it's a big pile). Plus any big updates, rants, tidbits, flyers, etc. Basically this blog is here to connect us all, so if you've got an account, sign in and become a fan! Maybe just drop by here once in a while too, I'll make it worth your while. Thanks! OOTZ! WOBBLE!
